Joanna’s IN! Joanna’s OUT!

Last night’s show clearly had Joanna advancing to the next round and Felicia Barton being sent home from Hollywood. This morning the American Idol website says Joanna is out. Holy Hollywood Batman!! What happened?
After last nights show it was announced by Fox that, “It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition”. Very strange when you consider that Kara DioGuardi previously defended Joanna’s right to compete on the show by saying, “I do think it’s fair because she’s facing the same challenges and in some ways more challenges than some of the other contestants”.
It looks like either American Idol couldn’t stand the pressure or the Fox Network put their foot down because they were being embarrassed. As we’ve already told you Joanna is hardly an “unknown”. There’s been controversy surrounding Pacitti’s professional past.
- She had a record deal with A&M/Geffen, which released her debut album, “This Crazy Life,” in 2006
- An opening slot on the last Nick Lachey tour (Lachey is signed to Jive Records, which is owned by Sony BMG, the company that awards a recording contract to the “Idol” winner)
- She appears on the soundtrack of the movie Legally Blonde
A few days ago, Star Magazine reported that Joanna lived in the same apartment building as Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski who are both senior executives with 19 Entertainment. In fact, STAR reports that Joanna has referred to Michelle as her “manager” and “best friend”. 19 Entertainment is the company that produces Idol. Something smells here, and it isn’t Givenchy perfume.
Did American Idol just jump the shark? Wouldn’t you love to be in the room to hear what Simon Cowell has to say to his partners in 19 Entertainment? Hollywood is not a place that can keep a secret for long, and we’ll be waiting for the other shoe to drop.
